"The
Portrait Group" consists of several series that examine physical
appearance and adornment as a signifier of our society. Each series
consists of photographs of a person or persons that have been manipulated
or adorned through computer programs. Utilizing the European portrait
style of the 15th and 16th century as a construct, my focus is on the
superficial presentation of the models and not on their facial expression.
I use this form to portray aspects of culture and not those of the particular
sitter. The base for the images is a banal style of studio portrait.
This serves as a familiar element that allows the viewer to make an
immediate connection. |
